Telecommunications

TELECOMMUNICATIONS & I.T.

Communication networks for the campus are being developed in stages, with a preference for open source appropriate technology. Such technologies include internet, servers, and computation systems.

A first priority of the project was to obtain a reliable internet connection, as it is the most important tool for accessing and sharing knowledge. In 2015, we installed a tower and antenna to access internet from the nearest large town (about 20km away). We have been continuously upgrading the system to improve the reliability and speed, including design of future back-up systems. In the future, we hope to develop various informatics systems to provide access to as many people as possible (with priority to educational programs). Telecommunication networks can be established through Wi-Fi technology to provide telephone communication between neighbours (not requiring payment to a service provider). A small computer network will be used to provide campus-wide access to software tools for education and development purposes.
